A Bugs Life

Project Overview:

The theme for this event was obviously insects and bugs. The interior of the CWI was transformed into scenes from the film, with an artist tilt towards a carnival flavour. Capital's brief was to supply discrete sound in four areas (Mexican bar, fairground, entrance corridor and fashion show) with a small system for the kids dance floor.

The centre piece for the event was a giant anthill; which was the backdrop for the fashion show. Throughout the evening the anthill puffed out dust and odd rumble sounds of marching ants. The fashion show was hosted by Johnathan Ross and the highlights of the evening were the bug costumes worn by Barbara Windsor and Patsy Palmer and the attending children.

The sound system was designed to supply localised sound so the overall volume could be controlled in what was a pretty reflective open space. Martin Connolly of Capital specified a mixture of short throw cabinets;
"I was particularly happy with how the anthill worked out, all we did was to centralise the subbass within the anthill; and the funnel acted as a surprisingly efficient bass port"

Quotes

" This was a difficult event to manage due to the acoustics of the building being stacked against us. The crew at Capital Sound came up with four individual systems that were discreet yet effective in each of the themed zones, which also allowed me to link all systems together for health & safety announcements without creating messy delay problems. Capital Sound... does exactly what it says on the tin!"
